# How to make fields required or optional

## Setting field requirements Fields can be marked as required or optional, depending on the document’s needs. Here’s how to configure this:

1. **Select the field**: Click on the field you want to configure.
2. **Open field properties**: In the **Field Properties** menu, locate the **Required** checkbox.
3. **Toggle the setting**: 
     - Check the box to make the field required.
     - Leave it unchecked to make the field optional.

4. **Save the settings**: Changes will automatically apply to the field.

**Note**: Required fields must be completed by participants before they can submit the document, ensuring no critical information is missed.
